For our leather jewelry, we only use naturally tanned reindeer leather. Reindeer leather is a beautiful and versatile material, and we only purchase it from the Swedish tannery Kero in Sattajärvi.

Kero uses the most environmentally friendly tanning method – natural tanning. This means that the leather is treated with tree bark, making it safe for the environment, the people who work with the leather, and the end users. This method has been known since ancient times and is the most environmentally friendly.

Today, there are four tanneries left in Sweden, and they are continuously tested to meet the high standards required. Buying Swedish-tanned leather ensures safety, guaranteeing that the leather is handled properly. Among the four tanneries, Kero is the only one that tans reindeer leather. Since the reindeer migrate between Sweden, Norway, and Finland, the entire chain from raw material to finished product remains in Scandinavia.

Kero was founded in 1929 and is still a family-run business. They are based in Sattajärvi, 20 km south of Pajala.
